A major step forward for Easy Brew
Way back in 2017, we decided to build our Easy Brew platform on the Umbraco .NET back-end. There were many reason why we chose this platform, including security, back-end UI, open source access and many others.
In the fast-paced world of digital platforms, staying on top of technological advancements is vital for maintaining user satisfaction and operational efficiency. Over the past year we have been investing significantly in the platform and have undertaken the biggest platform upgrade since our initial launch, by transitioning from Umbraco 7 to Umbraco 13. This update is not just a technical adjustment but a leap forward in functionality, security, and user experience.
Why Upgrade? The Case for Transitioning
Umbraco 7 served us well as the backbone of Easy Brew’s platform, offering flexibility and scalability during its time. However, technology evolves, and staying with older versions can limit growth and create vulnerabilities. Umbraco 13 brings a host of modern features, including better performance, enhanced security measures, and more streamlined development processes.
Enhanced Performance
Umbraco 13 is built to handle increased traffic and complex functionalities with its upgraded architecture. This means our platform will load faster, operate more smoothly, and handle higher traffic volumes, ensuring a seamless experience for our users.
Improved Security
Security has always been a top priority for Easy Brew. Umbraco 13 introduces strengthened security protocols, including improved handling of sensitive data and modern encryption methods, making it harder for potential breaches to occur (not that we’ve ever had a single breach since our launch).
Future-Proofing Our Platform
As we grow, we need a CMS that can grow with us and with our customers. Umbraco 13 is designed for scalability and adaptability, enabling us to integrate new features and technologies as they emerge, without losing the great features and tools that we’ve built into the platform over the years.
Key Differences Between Umbraco 7 and 13
Understanding the differences between Umbraco 7 and Umbraco 13 highlights the significance of this upgrade. Here are some of the key improvements:
- Modern Architecture: Umbraco 13 is built on .NET 8, whereas Umbraco 7 relies on the older .NET Framework. The newer version ensures better performance and compatibility with modern web standards.
- User-Friendly CMS: The user interface has been redesigned, making it more intuitive for content editors and reducing training time.
- Content Delivery Features: Umbraco 13 supports headless CMS functionality, enabling faster and more flexible content delivery across different platforms.
- Enhanced API Support: Our engineering team benefits from robust APIs, enabling smoother integrations with external systems.
Benefits of the Upgrade for Users
Our primary goal with this upgrade is to enhance the experience for Easy Brew users. Here’s what they can expect:
- Improved Speed: Faster loading times mean users can browse and interact with the platform without delays.
- Enhanced Mobile Experience: The new CMS enables a more responsive and optimized experience for mobile users.
- Advanced Features: With improved back-end capabilities, we can, and have, introduce exciting new features, such as new content blocks, navigation styling and theme options.
- Smoother Navigation: The redesigned interface ensures effortless navigation through the CMS, even for first-time users.
Conclusion
Upgrading our Easy Brew platform from Umbraco 7 to Umbraco 13 represents a pivotal moment in our journey. It’s a step forward that enables us to serve our users better while positioning ourselves for sustained growth and innovation. We’re excited about this transition and can’t wait to see how it transforms the Easy Brew experience for everyone involved. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue brewing up something extraordinary!
